About Nainital
Nainital, located in the Uttarakhand state is also known as the 'Lake City' is cuddled by beautiful lakes and panoramic hills. Naini Lake is the most beautiful of all the lakes. The city was developed by Lord P. Baron, a sugar trader, during the colonial rule in 1841. Nainital derives its name from Goddess Naina. According to Hindu mythology when Lord Shiva was dancing with the burnt body of Goddess Parvati, the eyes, 'nain' of the goddess felt here. The temple of the goddess is situated in the district. Another mythology connects the city with the three sages, Atri, Pulatsya and Pulaha who brought water in the city from the holy lake of Mansarover. The lake is named after them as 'Tririshi Sarovar'.

Saint John in the Wilderness Church : The foundation of the church was laid by Daniel Wilson, Bishop of Kolkata, who felt ill and had to live in an unfurnished house while his visit.
Naina Peak : Naina Peak, the highest peak in the town, also known as China Peak is located at the southern end of the town. The peak gives a clear view of the snow capped Himalaya and the beautiful city.
Bhimtal Lake : This Lake is said to be built by Pandava Bhim. The lake is larger than Naini Lake and has an island.
Other Places : Other places of interest in the city are Naukuchia Tal, Aerial Ropeway, Hanuman Garhi, Aryabhatt Observatory, Tiffin Top to name a few.
